Mutiroom Audio
systems have become more and more popular in recent years and these days you don't have to spend a huge amount of money for a really capable system.

The basic premise of any multiroom audio system is that you have one central storage location for your family's' entire library of digital music. Each room (or Zone) is then able to access this library using a controller: either a wall mounted keypad, wireless handheld controller or iphone/iphone/ipad/smartphone.

Search your music library for albums/artists/songs - press play and that's it!
Zones can play completely independent of each other or grouped together in any combination you require.
In addition to using your own music library, hundreds of thousands of internet radio stations can be accessed and with the addition of Spotify to these multi-room systems the potential to play any song, artist or album you desire - on demand - becomes a reality.

Each zone can be routed though an existing hi-fi, use discreet in-ceiling speakers, bookshelf speakers or even rock speakers for an outside area.

Multiroom Video uses exactly the same concept as multiroom audio and depending on your requirements can be achieved using kit as inexpensive as the Apple TV.

For true HD (1080p) video distribution however, systems such as the DF Solutions media server or kaledescape blu-ray server would be more appropriate.
